Mongolia is one of the 80 countries that financially sponsor the UN Environment Fund. Mongolia has enacted legislation to comply with the 17 goals of the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
In many ways placer gold mining affects the sustainable development goals SDG 6 (clean water), SDG 10 (prevention of inequality), SDG 13 (climate), and SDG 15 (life on land). We assume responsibility for these goals in all our projects.
Clean Water (SDG 6)
Chemicals and polluted water resulting from gold processing can enter the waterways and environment. Gold mining consumes a lot of water, either river water or groundwater. The use of the aquifer increases competition for water with other users.
Avoidance of Inequality (SDG 10)
Gold mining can lead to violations of the nomads' traditional grazing rights as well as of ethnic religions and thus to conflicts.
Climate (SDG 13)
Gold mining destroys a part of the vegetation cover, which has the property to bind CO2 from the air.
Life on Land (SDG 15)
Gold mining removes the fertile topsoil and heavy construction machinery leads to soil compaction. The intensive truck traffic leads to high dust emissions. The dust affects the quality of the grass on the pasture land.
